How the treatment works
Photobiomodulation delivers specific wavelengths of red and near-infrared light into body tissue. Those wavelengths are absorbed by mitochondria, the structures within cells responsible for producing ATP. Research suggests this absorption supports more efficient cellular energy production, which in turn underpins the effects described below.
The distinction between a whole-body bed and a handheld panel is dose consistency. A bed applies a measured, even exposure across the entire body in one sitting. A panel requires the user to position, aim, and time each region individually, which introduces considerable variability.
Two points follow from this that are worth stating plainly. First, the effects are cumulative rather than immediate, so a schedule matters more than any single appointment; two or three sessions per week is the cadence most regular users adopt. Second, nothing about the process requires preparation or produces after-effects. There is no ultraviolet component, no topical product, and no recovery window, which is why a session can be scheduled between other commitments rather than around them.
Where the evidence sits
Red light therapy is a wellness treatment, not a replacement for medical care. It is not a cure for any condition and we make no guarantees about individual outcomes. These are the areas with the most established research base.
Pain and inflammation
The most extensively studied application. Red and near-infrared light appear to support circulation and help moderate the inflammatory response in treated tissue.
Read the detailJoint comfort
Research has examined photobiomodulation in the context of joint stiffness and arthritic discomfort, with effects that build over repeated sessions.
Read the detailMuscle recovery
Light therapy is used before and after exertion to reduce perceived soreness and support the repair processes that follow hard training.
Read the detailSkin quality
Red wavelengths stimulate fibroblast activity and collagen production, which is associated with gradual improvements in tone and texture.
Read the detailSleep quality
Light exposure is a primary input to circadian regulation. Many regular users report easier sleep onset once sessions become routine.
Read the detailCirculation
Photobiomodulation has been studied for its effect on local blood flow and tissue oxygenation, which underpins several of the benefits above.
